Non-Invasive Fat Reduction for Edina, Plymouth, and Downtown Minneapolis
If you want to improve your silhouette without surgery near Minneapolis, CoolSculpting® is the treatment you’ve been looking for. Everyone has resistant pockets of fat they wish would go away, but it can be very hard to reduce that fat, no matter how much someone diets and exercises. Sometimes our natural body shape makes us prone to storing more fat in certain areas than others, and hormones, gender, and age also play a role in how our weight is distributed.
In the past, people have opted for liposuction to reduce their love handles, muffin tops, saddlebags, or back fat. While effective, this surgical treatment is invasive, costly, sometimes painful, and requires weeks of recovery time. Now, we have CoolSculpting®, a non-surgical option that freezes and removes fat without affecting skin or other tissues. This popular treatment is available in our Plymouth and Edina, MN, locations.

What is CoolSculpting®?
CoolSculpting® is a non-invasive fat reduction treatment that uses controlled cooling to target and reduce fat. This treatment can focus on specific areas in both men and women. The science behind CoolSculpting® was discovered by Harvard Medical School dermatologists.
During a treatment session, lipids are crystalized through controlled cooling or freezing. This causes fat cells to die without harming surrounding tissues, which freeze at lower temperatures. Then, the body’s normal metabolic processes take over, gradually removing the targeted fat cells, resulting in a slimmer look.
While CoolSculpting® can be used nearly anywhere on the body, some treatment areas are more popular and effective than others. The fat that CoolSculpting® targets is the soft fat directly below the skin, as opposed to hard, abdominal fat. Most of our patients are interested in targeting the following features:
- Belly Fat
- Waist and Flanks (Love Handles/Muffin Tops)
- Back Fat/Bra Line Fat
- Outer Thigh Fat
- Hip Fat or “Saddle Bags”
- Upper-Arm Fat
CoolSculpting® vs. Weight Loss: What’s the Difference?
CoolSculpting® isn’t a weight loss tool for overweight or obese patients. Instead, it’s ideal for women and men who are already at or near their ideal weight and have been able to maintain that weight with consistent exercise and healthy eating habits. Although patients are able to lose a few inches from select areas and often find that they go down a few clothing sizes after non-invasive fat reduction, the treatment is not intended for losing a substantial amount of overall weight or improving health.
Ever wonder where the fat goes when you diet and routinely work out? By early adulthood, everyone has a certain number of fat cells that doesn’t fluctuate much. When you create a calorie deficit to lose weight—typically by being active and watching what you eat, though bariatric surgery can also accomplish this—fat cells throughout the body lose some of their contents and shrink. They are not destroyed, which means they can grow again under the right circumstances.
Patients also can’t control exactly where they will lose fat when dieting. It can be difficult to create sleeker, more balanced contours when dealing with excess fat pockets in specific areas—even after losing weight and toning muscles.
CoolSculpting® solves this problem by allowing localized fat reduction in isolated spots and killing the fat cells so they aren’t able to grow back.
What to Expect from CoolSculpting® Treatment with Next Generation CoolAdvantage™ Applicator
The CoolAdvantage™ applicator reduces CoolSculpting® treatment times by nearly half. Now, a session can take as little as 35 minutes to complete. The applicator also provides greater comfort and delivers a larger cooling area to treat more tissue.
How does it work? The revolutionary cup design can create colder temperatures, which, in turn, reduces treatment times. The number of applications needed depends on the size of the area being treated, so you will discuss during your consultation how many rounds of CoolSculpting® treatments you may need.
Patients whose appointments involve the CoolAdvantage™ applicator report a 45 percent improvement in comfort scores, so many people will feel little discomfort during their session and will be able resume their daily activities right away.
