Chemical peels help clear up acne
Chemical peels that use either alpha–hydroxy acid (glycolic acid) or beta–hydroxy acid (salicylic acid) are highly effective in treating mild to moderately severe facial acne. These are the results of a new study published earlier this year in the journal Dermatologic Surgery.
The study found that both types of chemical peels significantly reduced acne lesions within two weeks of the first treatment. Patients continued to see a reduction in lesions through the first follow–up visit a month after treatment.
“This is good news for the millions of Americans who suffer from mild to moderately severe facial acne,” said the study’s lead author, Dee Anna Glaser, M.D., a professor of dermatology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. “This provides more options for patients and doctors to choose from when it comes to tailoring a treatment program.”
Zel offers a variety of chemical peels, including those used in this study for the treatment of acne. To find out which peel is most appropriate for your particular skin, call 952–929–8888 for a personal consultation.
