Chemical Peels for All Skin Maintenance Needs

Chemical peels are a great way to restore your skin’s tone and natural beauty. Your skin is unique and deserves the best in care and nourishment. With chemical peels, you can reduce fine lines caused by sun damage or aging. However, these peels can also be used for mild scarring, certain types of acne, and may even reduce symptoms of rosacea. Many patients use chemical peels to enhance the results of other skin rejuvenation treatments, such as laser skin resurfacing, which makes this a very versatile skin care option.

Chemical peels work by dissolving tissue cells, revealing a fresh, bright, new layer of skin. The depth of the exfoliation depends on the peel used, the type of acid present, and how it’s applied. We are proud to offer a wide array of chemical peels to our clients.

Chemical Peels Offered at Zel Skin & Laser Specialists

  • Lactic Acid Peel: The lactic acid peel is one of the gentlest options we offer. Unlike with other acids, a lactic acid peel provides exfoliating effects but is extra gentle. This is likely the best option for patients who have sensitive skin.
  • Citric Acid Peel: Citric acid is derived from citric fruits, specifically the alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) found in this type of produce. A citric acid peel is mild and used to reduce uneven pigmentation and fine lines. Some patients also see an improvement in acne after receiving a citric acid peel.
  • Glycolic Acid Peel: Glycolic acid is a naturally occurring alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). It is found in sugar cane and can be used as a mild peeling treatment. Those who opt for this chemical peel can expect to see a reduction in find lines, some types of acne, and uneven skin pigmentation.
  • Salicylic Acid Peel: The salicylic acid peel is one of our most popular. This type of acid effectively treats clogged pores, seborrheic dermatitis, and oily skin. As a result, this type of peel works very well for patients whose skin has been damaged by the sun. Salicylic acid peels can also treat dull and lifeless skin, dry or dehydrated skin, and uneven skin tones. This is another good peel for those with sensitive skin.
  • Vitalize Peel®: This peel utilizes four separate agents: AHAs, BHAs, resorcinol, and retinoic acid. The Vitalize Peel can treat uneven skin tones, reduce acne scarring, and decrease fine lines.
  • Illuminize Peel®: The Illuminize Peel is a great option for those looking to fix mild skin imperfections. By providing radiant, vibrant looking skin, this peel is great for those looking to fix mild discoloration and uneven skin tone. Additionally, this peel requires no down time.

What to Expect During Your Chemical Peel

When you arrive for a chemical peel, our licensed estheticians will discuss your needs, then recommend the appropriate peel for your skin type and problem. We will then thoroughly cleanse the skin to remove surface oils. The peeling solution is then applied to the treatment area. Most patients prefer to have the face, neck, chest, and/or arms treated. After the peel, your skin will be cleaned of residual material, and we will moisturize the treated area.

During the treatment you may feel a slight prickling or itching sensation, but once the peel is neutralized, the sensation subsides. After the treatment, you may experience some mild facial redness and swelling, but most of our patients immediately return to work or their normal daily activities.
