Are You Taking Care of Your Skin?
Given how convenient in-office treatments are, it’s tempting to try having a few “tweakments” to make yourself look younger at the first sign of wrinkles. Aesthetic procedures like BOTOX® and dermal fillers can significantly enhance the look of your skin, but it’s important to remember that you need to consistently keep up with a good, long-term skincare routine in order to maintain healthy skin and slow the effects of aging. If you aren’t taking care your skin throughout the rest of the year, the lack of attention can make the results of a cosmetic procedure less visible—and even undo them—which defeats the purpose and wastes your time, effort, and money.
After all, there’s no such thing as an instant fix. Every member of our Zel Skin & Laser Specialists team, providing a range of options for cosmetic dermatology in Minneapolis, believes that cosmetic treatments should ideally be paired with a balanced, at-home skin care regimen and that patients should continue to give their skin plenty of attention between treatments.

Know Your Skin Type
You can observe your own skin in the mirror or have it assessed by a dermatologist to determine your skin type. There are several different types, including normal, combination, oily, dry, and sensitive. Being aware of your skin type allows you to choose the most compatible products.
Wash Your Face at Least Once a Day
The basic first step in any proper skincare routine is cleansing your face each day. If you only wash your face once, do it at night. During the daytime, oil, dirt, makeup, dead skin cells, and toxins accumulate on your skin. It’s crucial to wash it all off thoroughly with a cleanser that’s suited for your skin type.
Use Sunscreen Every Day
Sun damage is a primary cause of skin damage (in addition to chronological aging). So be sure to apply a high-SPF product. Even if it’s a cloudy or colder winter day, your skin can still be harmed by UV radiation.
Boost Your Skin
Include some topical antioxidant products like vitamin C creams or retinols, as they not only fend off damage from free radicals, but also undo existing skin damage.
