Restore Facial Volume Lost to Aging with Sculptra® Aesthetic

If you’re looking for ways to improve aging skin, a Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment could be right for you. The production of collagen, a key structural component of smooth, healthy-looking skin, begins to decrease once we hit 20 years old. By age 40, most people experience a collagen loss of up to 20 percent. However, a youthful, natural look can be regained with Sculptra® Aesthetic. This procedure helps stimulate your skin’s own natural collagen production to help restore its inner structure. The result is that wrinkles are less noticeable, and hollowed cheeks or temples are recontoured to their former volume.

Sculptra® Aesthetic is a liquid biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid. This substance is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body and is commonly found in dissolvable stitches. During a Sculptra® Aesthetic procedure, the poly-L-lactic acid is injected deep into the skin to stimulate collagen production, which gradually restores facial volume. Most patients receive three treatments over a 6 to 9-month period to achieve their desired results. The body’s regeneration of collagen can take between 12 and 24 months, but the results of your procedure, more youthful-looking skin, can last up to two years.

What to Expect From Your Sculptra® Aesthetic Treatment

Sculptra® Aesthetic treatments involve injections into the skin with an ultrafine needle. A topical or local anesthetic is sometimes used to control any discomfort during the injections. If you are worried about pain management, simply communicate that to your practitioner prior to the treatment. Once the procedure is over, you can return to your normal activities almost immediately. Some patients may experience mild swelling, tenderness, redness, bruising or itching is felt at the injection site for up to one to two days. If this is unpleasant, applying ice to the site can help ease some of the discomfort. Whenever possible, keep out of the sun during the days following the treatment, as the injections may cause temporary photosensitivity.

Patients should expect to see results their treatment after around six weeks, but multiple sessions are typically required to yield the best results.
