Adam Schmitt, MD MS

Adam Schmitt, MD, MS, is a board-certified dermatologist and Mohs Surgeon practicing in Zel Skin & Laser Specialists’ Plymouth, MN location. He diagnoses, treats, and manages all conditions of the skin, hair, and nails. He is specialty trained in Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology for the treatment of skin cancer including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma, as well as rare skin cancers.

Dr. Schmitt is the recipient of many honors and awards including the Dermatology Faculty Prize at Case Western School of Medicine 2014 and in 2018, he received the Richard K. Winkelmann Research Award and the Paul A. O’Leary Award for Clinical Excellence, both from Mayo Clinic’s Department of Dermatology.

He has contributed to nearly two dozen peer reviewed publications presented at several dermatology meetings and authored two book chapters on skin cancer and benign skin disorders.

Dr. Schmitt is a member of several academic and professional societies including:

• The O’Leary Society at the Mayo Clinic Department of Dermatology

Dr. Schmitt received his Bachelor of Arts in chemistry, with concentration in biochemistry, from Northwestern University in 2004. He received his Master of Science in epidemiology from Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2013. In May 2014, Dr. Schmitt received his Doctor of Medicine with honors in research from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed an intern year in Internal Medicine in 2015, and his residency in Dermatology in 2018, both at Mayo Clinic. Finally, his fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology (Mohs) was completed in 2019 at Mayo Clinic.
