MICRODERMABRASION / VIBRADERMABRASION
Often dubbed “lunch–time peels,” these non–surgical skin resurfacing treatments use gentle abrasive actions to remove the stratum corneum, the dead layer of protective cells on the surface of the skin. After the procedure, the skin appears softer, smoother and more radiant.
What It Treats
Microdermabration and Vibroderm soften the appearance of fine line, age spots and other superficial blemishes on the face and chest. They are also effective in treating blackheads and whiteheads. In addition, these treatments stimulate the production of skin cells and collagen, and improve circulation. They’re effective on all skin colors and types and are excellent treatment options for skin sensitive to chemical procedures.
How It Works
The microdermabrasion device delivers a stream of very fine crystals to exfoliate the skin while gently suctioning the dead, outer layer of skin. Vibradermabrasion uses handheld devices with textured tips, combined with gentle vibration, to superficially remove the top layer of skin.
Zel also offers the HydraFacial resurfacing system, which uses equipment with diamond–coated tips to exfoliate the skin. Different–sized tips are available for different types of skin. Antioxidant and other treatment serums are applied to the skin during the procedure.
For even greater results, these procedures are often used in combination with other treatments, such as chemical peels.
What the Treatment Involves
The procedures take from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the amount of skin being treated. They cause little, if any, discomfort. At the beginning of the procedure, you may experience a mild scratching sensation, but soon the treatment will feel like a deep massage. Afterwards, your skin will feel tight, and you may experience some redness, but these mild side effects usually go away within a few hours. You’ll be advised to keep your skin well moisturized and to use sun protection. For best results, most people need several treatments, spaced one or two weeks apart.
